Active Shooter in Austin, Texas at The Domain on Friday, July 15th around eight o clock P.M. Shoppers and residents were disrupted by the sound of two large blasts. Initially the public thought the blasts were fireworks. However, reports from personal accounts and mine will describe in detail what happened.
Personal Accounts
Residents and shoppers waited and looked behind them towards the sound of the blasts in confusion. Everyone looked to each other waiting for an answer. Minutes later, the word of active shooter spread towards the area like a domino affect. The shots came from Rock Rose Avenue, near the Apple Store and Raybans store. Hundreds of people were out dining with their children, family and friends as they all looked around in disbelief. No one would have though an active shooter would happen at the Domain in broad day light.
As soon as this happened, people began running for their lives. There were plenty of children who were by the lawn. The lawn is a known active play area for kids which was no more than 100 feet away from the active shooter. There were over 100 children and over 300 adults estimated near the shooter that day July 15 2022.
A Scene out of a Movie
It was a scene out of a movie, the whole area began running, screaming, yelling, panicking. At first people didn’t know what to do, or how to react. A lot of people were in shock. Seconds later, there was a mass of people running for their lives in all directions. Families began hiding children under tables, mothers held their children, fathers tried to do their best to protect them. Store owners and staff were in disbelief, as diners fled their tables and food to find safety. A few minutes later around the same time everyone had evacuated, a large police presence arrived on scene. A select few began to investigate while children and others remain hidden and sheltered.
Austin Police Response
The Police began securing the blocks off with tape, and securing the area away from the public. No one had any idea what was going on, the police were not commenting on the subject. It was a surreal occurrence but everyone had the feeling something horrible happened. I began to speak to families and people and they were all in shock and disbelief. Many parents were appalled that this happened, and were severely concerned for their safety. Regular goers at the popular destination of the Domain, commented they do not want to come back. Others stated, they do not feel safe going out anymore.
The scene lasted for a few hours, around 4-6 hours. I began doing reporting a few minutes into the incident and began informing the public that there was an active shooter. Others had also confirmed an active shooter, while the majority are mainly confused.
There were apartments above the shops where the shooter had fired. The residents in those apartments hid in fear hoping they would not get hurt. Employees of the shops involved were in fear for their life, and have been traumatized by the event. Other employees not that much further away from the shooting, such as restaurant staff, were told to continue working after the incident was contained. It was a surreal day for Austin and the tourist area of the Domain.
Uncertain Future for Safety
Some people left the area, leaving it noticeably more empty with less children in the lawn. Others sat back down and return to their routine in obvious shock and fear. The people of Austin began visiting the scene for further answers. Many people I spoke to were in disbelief. The Domain is a popular area for shopping, dining, family time with children. No one could understand how this happened. As I spoke with multiple people and families they all told me around the something, they were shocked. I saw couples hurry and run away, I saw concerned parents hold their children. I heard children talking about what happened, saying “were those fireworks?” How do you begin to explain to children, that the area in which they play, was for a moment, compromised by an active shooter. Their lives, were almost compromised. People in the moment of the shooting, were wanting answers.
As of July 16th, per my reports on Twitter, people want more answers and a response for the City of Austin. However, there has been little reporting on the event, it almost seems to be swept under the rug. This is appalling, there has been no real reporting from any major news networks, or real attention given from local networks on the shooting in the highly dense and well known tourist spot of the Domain shooting in Austin. There were none injured this day, but this does not mean it shouldn’t be taken seriously by the news or government. The safety of populated areas, where there is a large presence of children and people, should never be compromised, or swept under the rug.
Us as Dailyantibrainwash, are just thankful no one was hurt, and all involved are safe. Here’s to waiting for a response from the Texas Government and Austin City council. such as governor Gregg Abbott, on the situation.
